eXception VAR is the offshore sourcing division of the eXception group; it specialises in working with best in class suppliers in Asia / Europe and the UK in terms of supplying both printed circuit boards and assembled printed circuit boards.
eXception VAR is currently considered as one of Europe’s leading value added suppliers of both PCB and PCBA with a customer base covering UK, Europe and the US.
eXception Var est la division “offshore sourcing” du groupe eXception, specialisee dans l’importation/exportation de circuits imprimes et de circuits assembles provenant de la meilleure classe de fournisseurs bases en Asie / Europe et UK.
eXception Var est actuellement considere comme l’un des leader Europeen dans la vente de PCB et PCBA, offrant un service complet a une clientelle situee en UK, Europe et USA.
Current role is that of Operations Director and responsibilities / achievements include:
Mon role actuel est celui de Directeur des Operations et mes responsabilites / accomplissements sont les suivants :
· Reporting to the Managing Director with overall responsibility for all offshore and UK based operational activities including total responsibility for managing an offshore spend of over $32M. This includes managing a team of 10 in the UK with a further 5 based in the Malaysian supply management centre.
· Rapportant au Directeur General j’ai la responsabilite de toutes les activites operationnelles du offshore et UK incluant la responsabilite totale de diriger les depenses offshore de plus de $32M. Cela inclu la gestion d’une equipe de 10 personnes en UK et d’une equipe de 5 personnes basees dans notre bureau en Malaysie.
· Year on year savings on inbound freight from Asia – circa 33% cost downs (£300K) by origin for 2009.
· Responsable des reductions de cout de transport d’importation d’Asie – 33% de reduction (£300K) pour l’annee 2009.
· Responsibility for Group UK / European freight – again approx 16% group saving for 2009 for domestic freight and a 20% reduction in express freight through aggressive benchmarking / tendering of the complete package during Q4 08.

· Defining operational objectives and developing / managing a strong operational team in the Penang office – allowing localised and strategic support to further enhance supplier development / customer focused improvement activities.

· Supplier development based on definition of business needs and identifying / auditing / approving / negotiating with / trialling potential suppliers to provide the best in class option capable of supporting the needs of an evolving business such as the introduction of new technologies to support the moving technology developments of the strategic customers.
· Developement des fournisseurs base sur la definition des besoins du business. Identifier / auditer / ameliorer / negocier avec les fournisseurs potentiels pour obtenir la meilleure des options, capable de supporter les besoins d’un business croissant, comme l’introduction de nouvelles technologies permettant de supporter le developement / le changement technologique de nos clients strategiques.
· Ultimate responsibility for quality both customer and supplier elements, PPM’s have been reduced to < 50 ppm for automotive customers, with supplier improvement integral in making this happen.
· Responsabilite totale de la qualite pour les clients et fournisseurs, les PPM’s ont ete reduits de <50 ppm pour nos clients de l’automotive, avec une amelioration integrale de nos fournisseurs pour obtenir ce resultat.
· Customer facing value engineering – removal of elements which influence cost on major part numbers as part of cost down initiatives which have yielded on average 15 % reduction in customer costs whilst increasing profit margins for the company.
· Support ingenieur pour nos clients cherchant a reduir le cout de leurs PCB – retirer des elements qui influencent un surcout sur les references / produits principaux de nos clients. Ceci a permis une reduction de cout de 15% en moyenne pour certains de nos clients mais aussi d’augmenter le profit pour l’entreprise.

Prior to the role of Operations Director, I held the position of Quality Manager (which in turn was a promotion from Quality Engineer). Again responsibilities / achievements included:
Avant le role de Directeur des Operarions, je tenais le role de Responsable Qualite (qui etait une promotion de mon poste d’Ingenieur Qualite). Mes responsabilites et accomplissements incluaient :
· Responsability for development and implementation of the ISO9001:2000 quality system which achieved zero non-conformities achieved during a 4 year period of BSI auditing.
· Responsable du developement et de la mise en place de l’ISO9001 :2000 dont nous avons aquis zero non-conformite sur ces 4 dernieres annees a l’audit BSI
· Development and successful implementation of a robust supplier approval programme to support the work undertaken with the procurement department.
· Developement et succes de la mise en place d’un programme robuste pour la qualification de nos fourniseurs afin de supporter le travail entrepris par notre departement des achats.
· Supplier audits in Asia, Europe and UK – these were the final stages of the supplier approval programme.
· Audits des fournisseurs en Asie, Europe et UK – ceux-ci etaient la derniere etape du programme pour la qualification d’un fournisseur.
· Ensuring best in class supplier performance in terms of internal & external reject rates – this also included the realisation of successful improvement activities based on statistical data obtained through improved measurement / analytical methods and implementation of Advanced Product Quality Planning techniques.
· Assurer la meilleure performance fournisseur en terme de taux de rejets internes et externes – ceci incluait egalement la realisation du succes de l’amelioration des activites basee sur les donnees statistiques grace a des outils de mesure qualifies / methodes analytiques et la mise en place des techniques du « Advanced Product Quality Planning ».
· Responsibility for customer reviews – existing and potential / new customers (supporting external sales during first contact meetings).
· Responsable des bilans clients – existants et potentiels / nouveaux clients (j’apportais mon support aux commerciaux pendant leur premiere visite).
· Implementation of a robust and proactive 8D system which has been adopted by both customers and suppliers alike due to the in depth analysis of both systems and procedure in terms of defining root causes.
· Mise en place d’un systeme 8D (actions correctives) robuste et proactive qui a ete adopte par nos clients et fournisseurs due a l’analyse approfondie de la procedure pour definir la cause du probleme.
Prestwick Circuits Ltd., Irvine, Scotland. 1996 - 1999
Prestwick Circuits was at the time one of the few volume manufacturing sites for printed circuit boards in the UK. It had a very strong automotive background with such customers and Ford, Visteon, Delphi and Siemens.
The reason for leaving Prestwick was primarily due to the belief that with the increasing impact of the Asian supply chains, it was a sensible career move to seek employment within a company whose product offering was sourced through such supply chains.
Prestwick Circuit etait a l’epoque un des rares sites de production en UK qui produisait des circuits imprimes en volume. Cette entreprise avait une forte experience dans le secteur de l’automobile avec des clients comme Ford, Visteon, Delphi et Siemens.
Ma raison principale de quitter Preswick a ete due au fait de l’impact de l’augmentation de la chaine d’approvisionnement Asiatique. C’etait un choix judicieux de trouver un emploi dans une entreprise offrant des produits provenant du telle chaine d’approvisionnement.
The role at Prestwick Circuits was that of Customer Quality Engineer and the primary responsibilities included:
Mon role a Prestwick Circuit etait celui d’Ingenieur Qualite Client et mes responsabilites principales incluaient :
· Direct interface / custodian of three largest automotive accounts from a quality perspective. Managing any quality concerns and working directly with the in house process engineers to solve problems / implement corrective actions.
· Interface direct, responsable des 3 plus grands comptes du secteur de l’automotive d ‘un point de vue qualite.
· Responsibility for quality reviews at customer sites along with the account manager. Working within the automotive industry ensured that any data collated and presented was accurate / proactive and was able to solve the problem at source.
· Accompagne par le Responsable du compte client, j’etais responsable pour les bilans qualites prenant place sur le site de production des clients. Travaillant avec le domaine de l’industrie automobile, je m’assurer que les donnees collectees et presentees etaient correctes / proactives et capables de resoudre le probleme a la source.
· Processing yield improvement activities on major part numbers to reduce scrap and improve quality performance.
· Amelioration du rapport d’activites sur les references principales pour reduire les rejets et ameliorer la performance qualite.
· Ensuring safe launch of new part numbers through Advanced Product Quality Planning – this is a process which proactively looks at the design of the product, considers critical characteristics and how the potential variation of the process may impact the end result. The aim being to implement specific in process checks to ensure adherence to specification is achieved.
· Assurer le bon lancement d’une nouvelle reference a travers l’ “Advanced Product Quality Planning” – cette procedure analyse proactivement le design du produit, considere les characteristiques critiques et indique comment la variation potentielle du processessus peut influencer le resultat final.

Interests Interets
Having two young children has curtailed my golfing ambitions although it is something that I manage to enjoy periodically – mainly when visiting parents in Scotland, my parents in law in South-East of France or through customer entertaining. As such the majority of spare time is taken up with my family.
However never one to refuse participation in the annual Group five-a-side tournaments this allows me to ‘manage’ my fitness / health following quitting smoking also supplementing my insufficient time spent in the gym.
Ayant deux jeunes enfants, a reduit mes ambitions de jouer au golf, cependant c’est un sport que j’aime pratiquer periodiquement – principalement lorsque que je visite mes parents en Ecosse, mes beaux-parents dans le Sud-Est de la France ou pendant une visite client. Aussi la majorite de mon temps libre est pris avec ma famille.
Cependant je ne refuse jamais de participer au tournois annuel de football organise par le Goupe, ceci me permet de rester en forme/en bonne sante après avoir arreter de fumer et aussi comble le temps insufisant que je passe a la gym
